The Shure MV7i Smart Microphone & Interface (MV7i) is a USB-C dynamic podcast microphone with a built-in two-channel audio interface, for podcasters, streamers and home-recording musicians who want to record a second mic or an instrument without a separate interface. Its combo XLR and 1/4 in input supplies +48 V phantom power and up to 60 dB of gain, and it records 24-bit / 48 kHz audio to a computer, tablet or phone over USB-C.

The cardioid dynamic capsule covers 50 Hz to 16 kHz. Shure’s DSP works on both the MV7i and the connected input: Auto Level Mode with SmartGate adjusts gain for distance, speech volume and room acoustics, and Voice Isolation Technology, a Real-Time Denoiser, Digital Popper Stopper and adjustable reverb clean up the sound. You set it all up and mix the two channels in the MOTIV Mix desktop app or the MOTIV mobile apps.

A 36-bit color-adjustable LED touch panel shows live meters or the status of both channels, and a tap mutes a channel, shown by a red animation. The 3.5 mm headphone jack monitors the mic and the input in real time, and the all-metal body sits on an adjustable yoke.

Do I still need an audio interface with the MV7i?

No. The MV7i is the interface: plug an XLR mic or an instrument into its combo input, and it records both channels to your computer, tablet or phone over a single USB-C cable, with +48 V phantom power for condenser mics.

Does the MV7i work with an iPhone?

Yes, on USB-C iPhone and iPad models. It is MFi certified and records at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz on iOS, but Shure notes it does not work with iOS devices that have a Lightning port.

Can I record the mic and a guest on separate tracks?

Yes. Multi-track Mode records the MV7i and the connected input as two separate mono tracks. Mixdown Mode, the default, merges them into one mono track, and Stereo Mode keeps a stereo instrument input alongside the mic.

Does the MV7i have an XLR output?

No. It connects over USB-C only. If you need to plug into a mixer or an existing interface, choose the MV7+ or the MV7X.

MV7i, MV7+ or MV7X?

The MV7i is the only one with an input: it adds a combo XLR and 1/4 in jack with 60 dB of gain and +48 V phantom power, so it records two channels over USB-C. The MV7+ has both USB-C and XLR outputs but no input, and the MV7X is an XLR-only version for use with your own interface. See more in Shure podcast microphones.
